Execution of Kwara University's Final-Year Student's Murderer Ordered by Court via Hanging

In Kwara State, Nigeria, an Islamic cleric named Abdulrahman Bello has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of Hafsoh Lawal, a 24-year-old final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.

The tragic incident occurred on February 10, 2025, at the Olunlade Area, Ilorin. During his arrest, police recovered the victim's palm, a bottle filled with blood, her personal belongings, a cutlass, and decomposed body parts in Bello's room. Further investigation revealed that other decomposed body parts were discovered at a nearby dumpsite in Ilorin.

The Kwara State High Court found Bello guilty of luring Hafsoh to his residence under false pretenses, then killing and dismembering her for alleged money-making rituals and trafficking in human body parts. The court's findings also revealed that Bello had sexual intercourse with the victim before the murder.

Justice Ajayi, who delivered the judgment, described the crime as a cold-blooded, premeditated act of extreme human wickedness. The judge dismissed Bello's claim that he loved the victim and intended to marry her as a fabricated defense to mislead the court.

Four other accused persons, Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Jamiu Uthman, Suleiman Muyideen, and Abdulrahman Jamiu, were acquitted due to lack of evidence linking them to the crime. The Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, delivered the judgment on Thursday.
