Exclusive: One-of-a-kind, unused Jaguar MKII Convertible owned by rock legend Noel Gallagher has been snapped up by a new owner
Noel Gallagher's Custom-Built Jaguar MKII Convertible Makes a New Chapter
A unique piece of automotive and music history, Noel Gallagher's Jaguar MKII Convertible, has recently been put up for sale. This bespoke classic car, originally a 1967 four-door sedan, underwent an extensive transformation in the mid-1990s by British specialists Vicarage at Gallagher's commission.
The car boasts several key features, including the removal of the rear doors, extension of the front doors, a fully electric folding roof, power steering, electric windows, an electric cooling fan, modern inertia-reel seatbelts, and an automatic gearbox. These practical modifications made the car easier to drive and maintain.
However, despite commissioning this high-specification transformation during the peak of Oasis's fame, Gallagher never obtained a driving license at that time and thus never personally drove the car. On rare occasions, his wife did, but it mostly remained in professional storage. The car did gain public visibility by appearing in a music video for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, where actor Matt Smith drove it.
In 2022, the vehicle was acquired by Jaguar Land Rover Classic and was showcased at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, during which model Twiggy rode as a passenger, further cementing its cultural significance.
The Jaguar MKII Convertible stands out as a rare, highly customized classic car blending automotive craftsmanship with music history, notable especially for its rock star provenance and exceptional, practical modifications carried out during the Britpop era. After years in storage and few public appearances, the car is now moving on from a long chapter of private ownership, transitioning to a collectible item appreciated for both its craftsmanship and cultural context.
The Jaguar MKII Convertible started life as a 1967 Jaguar MKII sedan, finished in black with a red leather interior and chrome wire wheels. It is a defining British saloon of the 1960s. The car's story links British car design with a period of major cultural influence. The Jaguar MKII Convertible offers seating for four and usable luggage space, a practicality not often found in convertibles.
With its unique history and exceptional features, Noel Gallagher's Jaguar MKII Convertible is a must-have for any classic car collector or music history enthusiast.
