Excitement over soaring darts: darts game dominates Freising's district

🎯 Freising's Dart Revolution 🎯

Let’s talk darts in Freising! This once overlooked sport has experienced a massive surge in popularity, transforming it into a common pastime for many residents.

Stefan Stangl, owner of the district's dart store at Waldstraße 27a in Volkmannsdorferau, has witnessed this trend firsthand. He shared that more folks are diving headfirst into the world of darts, setting up their hobby rooms, basements, and garage spaces with professional equipment. The number of registered players in Bavaria has skyrocketed, reaching nearly 7,000 in recent years.

Diving Headfirst into the Ampertal Dart League

The Ampertal Dart League, founded in 1993 by Stangl and the late Klaus Kronawitter, has been a driving force behind the growth of darts in Freising. Initially established during a time with no regulated game operation in Bavaria, the league has maintained a solid following, with 55 teams and 700 active players. Classes from D to A offer varied competition, welcoming players at all levels.

However, despite the surge in darts fans, it seems that local clubs, such as Haag and Zolling, are yet to experience a dart boom. Reason being: the league predominantly hosts E-dart games, while steel dart, a more popular choice among many, doesn't typically feature in their schedule.

Darts: From Pub Pastime to Big Time

The rise of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) has played a significant role in darts' ascension. This organization brought the sport out of the dimly lit corners of pubs and into spotlight-filled arenas, drawing massive TV audiences. The accessibility of darts—all you need is a board and darts to get started—has made it easy for anyone to jump in and potentially gain quick success.

Rising Star Despite Dartitis

Dominik Grüllich, a 23-year-old Wolnzach native, is making waves in the darts world. Despite facing the psychological block known as "dartitis," the young athlete has managed to secure a tour card for a professional career this year. Grüllich plays in both the "Team Talent Frei" of the Ampertal Dart League and the DSAB team based in Moosburg.

While dartitis poses a challenge for Grüllich, he remains optimistic, using positive thinking and creative techniques to work past it every day. With unwavering determination, he believes he will continue to improve and make a lasting impact in the world of darts.

Could Grüllich someday join the ranks of darts' legends, like Martin Schindler and Gabriel Clemens, who are inspiring the next generation to pick up their darts and aim high? Only time will tell! Hannes Grießer
