Excitement builds for Saarland's Sparkassen-Kreispokal tournament, with the revamped game structure fueling heightened enthusiasm among participants.

The Saarbrücken Sparkassen Cup, a cherished football competition in the Saarland region, is set for a significant transformation in the upcoming 2025/2026 season.

According to the latest announcements, the seventh round of the competition will witness the participation of clubs playing beyond the region, such as 1. FC Saarbrücken and FC 08 Homburg. However, details about the new playing mode, including changes in districts, start date, or involvement of various leagues, remain unclear at this time.

The new cup season is set to begin on August 6, 2025, with the first statewide cup round scheduled for October 22, 2025. The grand final is planned for May 23, 2026, with the new cup celebration day intended to create a significant increase in the competition's attractiveness and become a cup highlight in the warm season.

In the reformed playing mode, clubs from Kreisliga to Landesliga will only play against each other within their football district. Association and Schröder league clubs will now join directly at the state level. The new Sparkassen District Cup will consist of four regional districts and four independent end-of-season matches at district level.

The four district cup finals will take place on May 13, 2026, the eve of Ascension Day. The 32 teams fighting for a place in the quarter-finals will do so on March 4, 2026. The four Saarland Oberligists are also involved in the state level, with two of them receiving a bye.

Cornelia Hoffmann-Bethscheider, president of the Sparkassenverband Saar, has expressed her approval for the competition reform and the introduction of the Sparkassen District Cup. The new structure of the cup competition is intended to strengthen the game motivation of smaller clubs and promote fan identification with local teams.

The Sparkassen Financial Group Saar will continue to support football in Saarland, aiming to strengthen football in all regions and promote local enthusiasm. All match schedules and results can be found on www.fussball.de, as is usual.
