Christian B, a 48-year-old German man, is the primary suspect in the case, currently incarcerated for another offense. German investigators believe he kidnapped and potentially murdered her.
According to Lower Saxony prosecutors, Christian B's last known residence was in Braunschweig, Germany, where the case against him is being handled. He is currently serving a sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz, the same location where Maddie vanished. There are currently no charges against him in connection with Maddie's case, and he retains the presumption of innocence. It is anticipated that he may be freed as early as early 2026.
