"Examining the split among Republicans: Quest for retaliation towards the left post-Kirk's assassination"

Trump and his close associates contemplate stiff measures against left-wing organizations in response to Charlie Kirk's assassination. Yet, not all Republican figures are convinced about pursuing a path of retribution.

In the wake of heightened concerns about left-wing violence, Republican lawmakers are advocating for investigations into political violence. The proposed investigations could potentially involve a new committee, with more than 30 House Republicans urging Speaker Mike Johnson to establish such a body.

The potential probe would not only focus on recent incidents but could stretch back to the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. GOP Rep. Zach Nunn suggests forming a select committee to address violence coming out of gangs associated with central and southern America, while GOP Rep. Troy Nehls believes existing committees could conduct the investigation.

One of the key areas of interest for the proposed committee would be the examination of funding sources. The committee probe would dig into the finances of billionaire George Soros and non-government organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center. However, it's important to note that there is no basis for the claims that Democrats, Soros, or another wealthy mystery patron is funding Antifa or violent protesters in general.

President Donald Trump and his allies are considering plans to crack down on left-wing groups, with Trump crafting a plan with his advisers to use the federal government to target these groups. Trump is also considering naming far-left anti-fascism group Antifa as domestic terrorists.

The House Judiciary Committee is planning a field hearing in Charlotte, North Carolina, where a Ukrainian refugee was fatally stabbed on a train. This incident, along with others, has fuelled Republican concerns about left-wing violence. Vice President JD Vance has blamed Kirk's death on 'a growing and powerful minority on the far left.'

However, no specific Republican has been identified in the search results as having officially submitted a formal request to establish a committee specifically investigating violent acts by left-wing groups. Some Republicans, like GOP Rep. Cliff Bentz of Oregon, encourage their colleagues to wait for the facts before taking a position on the investigation into Kirk's assassination.

There are concerns that launching an investigation targeting left-wing groups could set a precedent of investigating political opponents that Democrats could seize on, should they reclaim the majority next year. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer has stated that the decision to establish a special committee to investigate left-wing groups is ultimately up to the speaker.

As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether a new committee will be established and how it will approach its investigation into left-wing violence. CNN's Manu Raju and Alison Main contributed to this report.
