"Examining the Future: A Preview of Team USA in the 2028 Olympics"

Projected Roster for Team USA Men's Basketball at the 2028 Olympics

The 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles is still a few years away, but the anticipation for Team USA's men's basketball team is already building. The projected roster for the event is a mix of established NBA stars and promising young players, expected to be in their mid-20s to early 30s by the time of the Games.

At the center position, Bam Adebayo and Joel Embiid are the projected options. Adebayo's strong defensive abilities and his experience from the 2024 Olympics bolster his role, while Embiid's inclusion depends on health due to past injuries.

The backcourt is represented by several guards, including Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, Donovan Mitchell, and Cade Cunningham, with many expected to be in or approaching their prime years.

The forward group includes Paolo Banchero, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, and Jalen Williams. This mix of youth and veteran presence promises an exciting and dynamic team.

Young prospects such as Paolo Banchero and Cooper Flagg are among the top potential debutants. These players could help sustain Team USA’s dominance, anticipating a generational transition from veterans of prior squads like LeBron James and Stephen Curry, who might have hung up their jerseys by then.

However, it's important to note that this roster is still a projection as of 2025 and may evolve depending on player development, health, and emerging talent leading up to the 2028 Games.

Anthony Davis will be 35 years old in 2028, but has a guaranteed spot on Team USA if he's up for it, despite injury concerns. Davis has been a quintessential Team USA member since he came into the NBA in 2007 and is expected to make a final appearance for Team USA at the 2028 Olympics.

Kevin Durant has also been a consistent member of Team USA since he joined the NBA in 2007 and is expected to make a final appearance for Team USA at the 2028 Olympics. However, Stephen Curry indicated that his 2024 run with Team USA could be a one-and-done deal, and it's uncertain if he'll want to participate in the 2028 Olympics.

Cooper Flagg isn't a lock because he hasn't played an official NBA game yet, but could earn a spot if he performs to the level he's projected. Amen Thompson and Trey Murphy III could make a big enough splash to earn a roster spot by 2028 as well.

Evan Mobley is the only player from the potential candidates list that I would currently have on my 12-man Olympic roster.

Embiid's inclusion on the 2028 Olympic team is questionable due to health concerns. Jalen Williams might enter the 2028 Olympics with the deepest jewelry collection on the team, if Oklahoma City starts to stack championship rings.

Here's the current projected roster for Team USA men's basketball at the 2028 Olympics:

| Player | Position | Age in 2028 | |------------------|----------|-------------| | Bam Adebayo | C | 31 | | Paolo Banchero | F | 25 | | Devin Booker | G | 31 | | Jalen Brunson | G | 31 | | Cade Cunningham | G | 26 | | Anthony Davis | F | 35 | | Anthony Edwards | G | 27 | | Joel Embiid | C | 34 | | Tyrese Haliburton| G | 28 | | Donovan Mitchell | G | 31 | | Jayson Tatum | F | 30 | | Jalen Williams | F | 27 |
