Young prospects such as Paolo Banchero and Cooper Flagg are among the top potential debutants. These players could help sustain Team USA’s dominance, anticipating a generational transition from veterans of prior squads like LeBron James and Stephen Curry, who might have hung up their jerseys by then.
However, it's important to note that this roster is still a projection as of 2025 and may evolve depending on player development, health, and emerging talent leading up to the 2028 Games.
Anthony Davis will be 35 years old in 2028, but has a guaranteed spot on Team USA if he's up for it, despite injury concerns. Davis has been a quintessential Team USA member since he came into the NBA in 2007 and is expected to make a final appearance for Team USA at the 2028 Olympics.
Kevin Durant has also been a consistent member of Team USA since he joined the NBA in 2007 and is expected to make a final appearance for Team USA at the 2028 Olympics. However, Stephen Curry indicated that his 2024 run with Team USA could be a one-and-done deal, and it's uncertain if he'll want to participate in the 2028 Olympics.
Cooper Flagg isn't a lock because he hasn't played an official NBA game yet, but could earn a spot if he performs to the level he's projected. Amen Thompson and Trey Murphy III could make a big enough splash to earn a roster spot by 2028 as well.
Evan Mobley is the only player from the potential candidates list that I would currently have on my 12-man Olympic roster.
Embiid's inclusion on the 2028 Olympic team is questionable due to health concerns. Jalen Williams might enter the 2028 Olympics with the deepest jewelry collection on the team, if Oklahoma City starts to stack championship rings.
