Investigation into Rapper Xatar's Death Concludes with No Criminal Influence Found
The investigation into the death of renowned rapper Xatar, born Giwar Hajabi, has come to a close, according to a statement made by Cologne's Chief Prosecutor Ulrich Bremer.
Xatar was found dead in his own apartment in May 2025, at the age of 44, an event that was reported by media outlets such as the "Tagesschau". The musician's sudden demise sent shockwaves through the music industry and beyond.
The investigation, initiated by the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office, aimed to determine if there was any criminally relevant external influence on Xatar's death. This investigation involved the evaluation of a chemical-toxicological report commissioned by the Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office.
However, the investigation concluded that there was no evidence of any criminally relevant external influence in Xatar's death. Furthermore, the authorities found no indications of negligent behavior by other persons that could have contributed to Xatar's demise.
The Public Prosecutor's Office has decided not to provide further details on the investigation results to protect Xatar's privacy rights and those of his relatives.
Beyond his music career, Xatar was an entrepreneur who managed several record labels and founded his own shisha bar and snack bar. His life, marked by both success and controversy, was adapted into the autobiographical novel "Alles oder Nix" and later into the film "Rheingold" by Fatih Akin.
Xatar's life took a dramatic turn in 2009 when he was involved in a gold transporter robbery. The authorities involved were the German police and federal law enforcement agencies. As a result, Xatar was sentenced to eight years in prison, serving approximately five years.
The investigation into Xatar's death has now been discontinued, marking the end of a chapter in the life of a man whose influence on music and entrepreneurship continues to resonate.
