Shkodran Mustafi, the former German footballer who won the World Cup with the national team in 2014, has taken a new role as an assistant coach for the Germany U21 national team. The announcement was made by the German Football Association (DFB).

Mustafi will be working under head coach Antonio Di Salvo and assistant Ovid Hajou. This marks his first time holding a coaching position for a national team. Prior to this, he served as an assistant coach for the Germany U17 national team after his retirement from professional playing in June 2024.

The German U17 national team has two significant matches coming up next month. On September 5th, they will face hosts Albania, and on September 9th, they will have a qualification match for the 2027 European Championship against Latvia in Rostock, Germany.

However, the match against Albania is not specified as a qualification match for any tournament. The German U17 national team is led by head coach Marc-Patrick Meister.

The German U21 national team's upcoming matches are yet to be announced, with such schedules typically revealed by the DFB closer to competition dates. As Mustafi is new to his coaching role, there is currently no official record of his coaching match results.

Mustafi's transition into coaching comes after he replaced Hermann Gerland in his active coaching role for the German U21 national team. The specific responsibilities of his new role are not specified.

Despite the limited record, Mustafi's appointment to the U21 team follows his work with the U17 team, demonstrating his commitment and potential in the coaching field. As he embarks on this new journey, football fans and enthusiasts eagerly await his contributions to the German national teams.
