Ex-wife of UC Berkeley professor apprehended over his murder in Greece
Greek authorities have made several arrests in connection with the murder of Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a marketing professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who was shot and killed in Athens earlier this month.
The shooting occurred on July 4 in the Agia Paraskevi district of Athens. Jeziorski, a respected expert in quantitative marketing, industrial organization, and the economics of digital markets, was fatally shot while walking to his ex-wife's home to see their children.
According to reports, the murder was orchestrated amid a bitter custody dispute. The ex-wife, Konstantina (or Nadia) Michelidaki, has been charged as a moral accomplice in the killing. The shooter was her current partner, who admitted involvement in the crime. Three other men, two Albanian nationals and one Bulgarian man, have also been arrested for allegedly driving the shooter to the scene and providing the weapon.
Michelidaki, who was arrested by Greek authorities, is identified as the ex-wife of Jeziorski. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to press charges and pursue justice for Jeziorski.
Professor Jeziorski, who taught economics at the Berkeley Haas School for 13 years, was known for his grace, gentleness, and courage in tackling important problems. He leaves behind his mother, brother, and two children as survivors.
The field of marketing has suffered a tremendous loss with Jeziorski's death. Professor Miguel Villas-Boas, a colleague at UC Berkeley, stated that Jeziorski was one of the most knowledgeable experts on empirical analysis in marketing in the world.
This tragic event underscores the importance of resolving family disputes peacefully and amicably, especially in cases involving child custody. The investigation remains active as Greek authorities work to resolve all aspects of the case.
