Ex-spouse of Kelly Clarkson reportedly unwell, causing the postponement of her August concerts in Las Vegas
Kelly Clarkson Postpones Las Vegas Residency Following Ex-Husband's Passing
Kelly Clarkson has announced the postponement of her Studio Sessions residency in Las Vegas, citing the need to focus on her children and family during a difficult time. The postponement comes following the passing of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who battled cancer and passed away at the age of 48.
The singer, who lives in New York City and hosts a daytime talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," made the announcement on her Instagram account on Wednesday. She did not specify the reasons for the postponement, but it is understood that her children, River Rose and Remington, have been deeply affected by their father's illness.
This is not the first time Clarkson has had to balance her personal struggles with her professional commitments. In June 2023, she sat down for an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, where she spoke candidly about her divorce from Blackstock and its impact on her. Clarkson described the divorce as "freeing," but also acknowledged that it was a deeply sad and grievous process.
Clarkson has addressed her ex-husband through her music in her 2023 songs "Mine" and "Me." In one of her performances, she even revised the lyrics to Olivia Rodrigo's song "abcdefu" to reflect her divorce settlement, which included a one-time payment of over $1 million to Blackstock, monthly spousal support until Jan. 31, 2024, and child support payments over $160,000.
Clarkson's personal life has been private, but she has chosen to share more about her family's difficult chapter. In addition to her weight loss journey, which saw her shed 60 pounds by mid-2025, Clarkson has also been open about the emotional toll of her divorce and her father's illness.
During her absences from her talk show from late February through March 2023, guest hosts such as Simu Liu, Roy Wood Jr., and Willie Geist filled in. Clarkson has not yet announced when the rescheduled shows will take place, but they are planned to resume in September.
In the meantime, Clarkson continues to focus on her family and her health, working towards a brighter future. Our thoughts are with her and her children during this difficult time.
