Ex-president Tsai embarks on journey to Lithuania

Taking Off for Europe: Tsai Ing-wen's European expedition

Hey there! Guess who's jetting off to Europe this weekend? You got it! None other than former Taiwanese President, Tsai Ing-wen! Her destinations? Lithuania and Denmark! She bid us farewell on Friday night at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, sans any impromptu press conferences.

But don't worry, Tsai didn't leave us hanging! She took to social media to unveil the main objective of her European tour. Her mission? To reinforce Taiwan's commitment to joining forces with democratic allies for the sake of regional security, stability, and the preservation of freedom and democracy.

She also expressed eagerness to collaborate with Europe in bolstering economic resilience in the global market. Wanna know more about her itinerary? Here's the lowdown!

First stop: Lithuania. Tsai's agenda includes delivering a speech at Vilnius University and having a powwow with former Lithuanian President, Dalia Grybauskaite, who held office from 2009 to 2019—coincidentally, the same years Tsai was in office.

After wrapping up her time in the Baltic nation, Tsai will jet off to Denmark to engage at the Copenhagen Democracy Summit—an event that takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The summit brings various democratic leaders, tech honchos, think tanks, civil society organizations, and Hong Kong pro-democracy activists together under one roof.

By the by, this isn't Tsai's first dance with Europe since passing the torch last May. She previously popped by the Czech Republic, France, and Belgium. So, sit tight and keep your fingers crossed for this diplomatic dance to bring about glorious results!
