Ex-New Zealand T20I batsman opts for Scotland, included in ODI team roster
Tom Bruce to Make International Debut for Scotland in World Cup League 2 Series
Tom Bruce, the former New Zealand batter, has been named in Scotland's squad for the upcoming World Cup League 2 series against Namibia and Canada. This marks a significant shift in Bruce's international career, as he will now represent Scotland after previously playing for New Zealand.
Bruce, who qualifies to play for Scotland through his Edinburgh-born father, has a history with Scottish cricket. He represented Scotland's development side back in 2016 before making his international debut for New Zealand.
In his most recent appearance, Bruce played for Central Districts in the Global Super League in July. Notably, he was among the top three run-getters in the Ford Trophy, amassing 431 runs at an average of 43.40 with a strike rate of 108.02. He also led Central Districts to a title win in the Super Smash, finishing as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer.
During his international career for New Zealand, Bruce played 17 T20Is, with his standout performance being an unbeaten 59 batting at No.5 in his second T20I appearance, which secured victory for New Zealand.
Steve Snell, head of performance at Cricket Scotland, expressed excitement about Bruce joining the squad. He said, "Tom is a highly skilled and experienced player, and we are thrilled to have him on board. His addition to the squad will undoubtedly strengthen our batting lineup."
Joining Bruce in the Scotland squad will be Josh Davey, a seamer, who last played for Scotland in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Chris Greaves, a spinner, will also return to the squad and finished as the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier.
The series will take place at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City near Toronto, Ontario, from August 29 to September 6, 2025. This will be Bruce's official switch from New Zealand to Scotland at the international level.
