Ex-military officer from Nicaragua met his demise in Costa Rican exile.

Laid-Back Lowdown:

hey there! 🤗

So, Roberto Samcam, a former Nicaraguan military officer and vocal critic of President Daniel Ortega, met an unfortunate end in Costa Rica. Seems the guy was living in exile there, and on Thursday, some hoodlum popped by his condo on the outskirts of San Jose, claimed to be a delivery dude, and, ya know, proceeded to blow Samcam to smithereens with at least eight shots! 💥 🤬

Samcam, a retired Sandinista major, was a thorn in Ortega's side, as he was a constant critic of the Nicaraguan government's alleged violent crackdown on dissidents. The military officer fled Nicaragua after participating in anti-government protests in 2018, which grew out of social security reforms into a demand for democratic change.

It's been reported that authorities in Nicaragua used deadly force to quell these protests, leaving hundreds of people dead. Samcam himself had denounced Ortega's military for their involvement in the suppression.

Costa Rican cops have confirmed that a Nicaraguan with the last name Samcam was shot to death in his condo around 7:30 a.m. local time. Police have expressed outrage over the assassination, labeling it as a cowardly political act. They're actively probing the circumstances of the murder and are trying to hunt down those responsible. 🕵️‍♂️🔎
