In a shocking turn of events, Sergey Nikonov, a former deputy of the State Assembly of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Yakutsk City Court on December 29, 2023. The conviction stems from an incident that occurred in the "Tygyn Darshan" hotel in Yakutsk, where Nikonov was accused of causing grave bodily harm and sexual violence against a 50-year-old woman.

According to the investigation, the incident took place on an unfortunate night in March 2023, when Nikonov met the woman in the hotel bar. The woman later accused Nikonov of forcing her to engage in non-traditional sexual acts and beating her unconscious. She reported the incident to the police, leading to an investigation that eventually resulted in Nikonov's conviction.

The woman sustained severe injuries, including a left hand fracture, a right hand ligament tear, and general bruises. The details of the case, including the specifics of the incident and the trial, are not widely available in public sources. However, it is known that Nikonov left for Rostov and joined the unit of convicts the day after he arrived in Nizhny Tagil, from where he left for the Special Military Operation (SVO) on July 11, 2023, after spending 10 days in the colony.

Despite the conviction, Nikonov plans to fight to restore his good name in court. He claims he requested to be sent to the SVO while in the Yakutsk SIZO, but was told to do so in the colony. It is worth noting that receiving a state award does not exempt a prisoner from further contract service.

Currently, Nikonov is undergoing treatment in Nizhny Novgorod. The sentence is to be served in a general-regime colony. The exact details of his post-SVO situation, including his treatment and current condition, are not publicly disclosed due to the recent or private nature of the matter.
