Bye, Bye, Ballroom: Marc Eggers and Renata Lusin Bid Adieu
- ~3 Min Read
The 6th episode of "Let's Dance" was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride, brimming with raw emotions, chuckles, and smoldering stares. The live show kicked off with a surprising moment - the hosts, Victoria Swarovski and Motsi Mabuse, joining the dance floor alongside the professional dancers.
Notable dancer, Simone Thomalla, left viewers grasping for tissues as she received a heartfelt video message from her remarkable daughter, Sophia Thomalla. In Motsi Mabuse's opinion, Simone's performance was the best dance she's seen so far from them. Yet, Joachim Llambi, the notoriously strict judge, still wasn't swayed - awarding them a mere 5 points. The pair, however, managed to gather a personal best of 21 points for their rhythmic number.
Fabian Hambüchen and Anastasia Maruster delivered a more subdued slowfox compared to previous performances. The professional athlete showed a softer side, which made Llambi reluctant to grant them a perfect score, awarding them a 9. However, they managed to secure 10s from Motsi and Jorge Gonzalez.
Contestant Jeanette Biedermann and her partner, Vadim Garbuzov, faced severe criticism for their lackluster jive. Llambi remarked it was "nothing," and the pair received a measly 17 points, much to the displeasure of the audience.
Stuntwoman Marie Mouroum and Alexandru Ionel shined with an emotional slow waltz, but Llambi stopped them from earning a perfect score due to technical issues with footwork. The pair still managed to secure a commendable 29 points.
Diego Pooth, just 21 years of age, danced barefoot and with an open shirt in a contemporary routine with partner Ekaterina Leonova. However, Llambi alleged that the emotions shown were still insufficient, leaving them with a solid yet unimpressive 23 points. Christine Neubauer and Valentin Lusin earned themselves one more point for their slow waltz, with Motsi praising Neubauer's zest for life.
Taliso Engel, a visually impaired and deaf-in-one-ear paralympic swimmer, delivered an awe-inspiring blindfolded dance together with Patricija Ionel. The audience and judges were left spellbound, but Llambi yet again thwarted a perfect score, inciting boos from the audience.
The energy was resurrected by Selfiesandra and Zsolt Sándor Cseke's vivacious samba performance, earning them a second consecutive 23 points. The show concluded with Marc Eggers and Renata Lusin's slowfox, which Llambi criticized by advising Eggers to leave his hat behind. The pair ended up with 22 points in total, which wasn't enough to protect them from elimination.
The Jury Challenge Revealed Winners and Losers
Despite the evening drawing to a close with a trio of 29-point scores and a 17-point score, the excitement didn't end. For the first time in "Let's Dance" history, the Jury Challenge made its appearance. Each team had to perform a choreography with a blend of various dance styles to the same tune. The team featuring Selfie Sanders, Marc, and Jeanette Biedermann came out on top, earning a remarkable nine points with their "Theater of Dance."
Ironically, the group's impressive performance seemed to seal Jeanette Biedermann's stay in the competition despite placing near the bottom of the leaderboard. Unfortunately, the votes from the audience didn't favor Marc Eggers and his partner, Renata Luisin, forcing their unexpected and abrupt exit from the show. The jury's points combined with the viewer votes ultimately led to their elimination, with the hat perhaps playing a role in the decision[1][2][3][4].
