Anders Besseberg, the now-former bigwig of biathlon, has been booted out from the sport for life following a slew of allegations against him. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) made this decision based on evidence showing his repeated unethical behavior over a substantial period.

According to the ruling, Besseberg, who always maintained his innocence, was found guilty of receiving bribes from Russian officials. These ill-gotten gains came in various forms, including cold, hard cash, luxurious timepieces, hunting excursions, and prostitution services. The CAS considered these allegations substantiated and considered them violations of sports integrity.

To make matters worse, Besseberg failed miserably in his duty to halt the unethical practices circling the sport during his tenure as head of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).

Sentencing in his home country of Norway came in early 2024, with Besseberg handed a three-year, one-month prison sentence for severe corruption. The court found him guilty on nine out of ten charges between 2009 and 2018. To add insult to injury, Besseberg, who's now 79, headed the IBU from its inception in 1993 and resigned in 2018 following an investigation into his activities by an outside commission.
