Former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed support for two ex-Bavarian players set to return to the Allianz Arena for the upcoming Champions League final. Benjamin Pavard and Yann Sommer, both now with Inter Milan, will face Paris Saint-Germain in Munich on Saturday.

In an interview, Rummenigge acknowledged the key contributions of both players during their time at Bayern. "Pavard's header in the quarter-finals played a significant role in our semi-final victory, and Yann Sommer was exceptional, especially against Barcelona," he said.

Sommer replaced Manuel Neuer at Bayern in January 2023, but had to deal with a challenging period marked by a coaching change and early exits from major tournaments. Rummenigge commended Sommer's consistency and resilience in overcoming these obstacles and thriving at Inter Milan.

"Despite the difficult situation at Bayern, Sommer has shown incredible quality at an advanced age in football," Rummenigge commented. He added, "It's remarkable to see how well Sommer has adapted and performed at Inter Milan after fleeing a bit from our former coach."

Rummenigge, who hopes for a high-quality final, also expressed sympathy for his former club. "I have fond memories of my time at Bayern, and I wish for both teams to put on a great show. However, I'm naturally slightly biased towards Inter Milan, considering my past association with the club."

The 69-year-old emphasized that a victory for Inter Milan would be a significant achievement, ending a 15-year trophy drought for the Italian club.
