It's been a rough 18 years since Madeleine "Maddie" McCann vanished in Portugal, on the brink of her fourth birthday. Her location remains unknown, and the truth behind her disappearance continues to elude us.
The Portuguese public prosecutor's office has been pursuing suspect Christian B. for years. Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters declared on Portuguese television in 2022, "We're certain he's Madeleine McCann's murderer." Nevertheless, evidence has yet to be sufficient for an arrest warrant, and the presumption of innocence still holds. A recent report by The Sun claims to uncover previously undisclosed evidence that implicates B. This evidence is already in the hands of the prosecutor's office.
Madeleine Case: Police Discover Photos, Messages, and Weapons
According to The Sun, police dogs found the remains of B.'s dog in a derelict factory building B. bought in 2016. Several items with disturbing content were discovered there, along with the dog's grave. During the raid, investigators also seized dozens of children's swimsuits, bicycles, and toys – B. has no kids.
Maddie or Madeleine?
The disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been known globally as the "Maddie case" since 2007. However, McCann's parents have always called their daughter by her full name. The tabloids coined the abbreviation "Maddie." The stern newspaper will refer to Madeleine using her parents' chosen name except when needed for definitive references, while acknowledging the popular familiarity with the term "Maddie case."
The report reveals chats with pedophiles that describe explicit rape fantasies involving toddlers. Police also discovered three black-market firearms and ammo. An insurance document shows a car accident near a Spanish festival, proving that the suspect was indeed in the area at the time. B. allegedly confessed to a festival acquaintance that he had something to do with Madeleine McCann's disappearance.
One important piece of evidence could be a selfie of B., which is said to show him near the last known location of the girl in Portugal. In 2023, police searched the area for clues for three days. According to Wolters, "t-online," B.'s known preferences for the area make it subject to investigation. The rest of the evidence reported by The Sun is already known to the prosecutor's office.
Christian B. Expected to be Released in Autumn
Christian B. is Currently in prison in Portugal for a 2005 rape of a 72-year-old American woman. He is eligible for early release as early as September, as he has applied for such. The heavily convicted sex offender was acquitted in October 2024 for three rapes and two child sexual abuse cases due to lack of evidence[1][2].
Authorities fear that B. may escape to another nation after his release, making him untraceable. This puts even more pressure on investigators to quickly present solid evidence in the Maddie case to secure an arrest warrant.
