Every 40 minutes, a child loses their life in Israel, according to the Ministry's report.
In Gaza City, the ongoing Israeli conflict has resulted in alarming casualties, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Every 40 minutes, a child is killed, and every 60 minutes, a woman dies. Since the hostilities began in October 2023, over 16,850 children have perished, representing 31.5% of all casualties, with 931 of them being under the age of one.
This report from the Health Ministry came as the United Nations warned that Gaza is currently the hungriest place on Earth, with the UN humanitarian agency OCHA stating that the entire population of Gaza is at risk of famine. OCHA Spokesman Jens Laerke affirmed, "Gaza is the hungriest place on Earth. It's the only defined area where you have the entire population at risk of famine."
Chaos erupted on May 29 as thousands of desperate Palestinians attempted to obtain food from U.S.- and Israeli-backed foundation distribution sites. Witnesses reported scenes of disorder, with people grabbing aid, and Israeli soldiers reportedly opening fire to control the crowd.
Diplomatic efforts to brokering a ceasefire continue, with the White House stating that Israel had "signed off" on a new truce proposal submitted to Hamas. However, Hamas rejected this proposal, denouncing it as a continuation of violence and famine. The Hamas leadership is currently reviewing the response.
The proposed ceasefire terms include a 60-day suspension (extendable to 70 days), the exchange of hostages and bodies for Palestinian prisoners during the initial week.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron urged European countries to strengthen their stance against Israel, asserting that it was crucial to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza promptly. He argued that recognizing a Palestinian state, under certain conditions, was both a moral and political necessity.
