Celebrating Omsk's 309th Birthday and Omsk Region Day

In a grand spectacle of culture, sports, and community spirit, Omsk, Russia, celebrated its 309th birthday and the Omsk Region Day on the same day in 2025. The city was abuzz with a variety of festive events that honoured its rich history and the pride of its people.

The clock tower on Lyubinsky Prospekt rang its bells for the first time since before the pandemic at 3 pm, marking the official start of the celebrations. The volleyball club "Omička" held a team presentation at their new location on Lyubinsky Prospekt, aiming to create a "volleyball family" with fans. Districts synchronized their celebrations with the regional capital, creating a unified atmosphere of joy and camaraderie.

Cultural performances were a highlight of the celebrations. Concerts featuring local artists, traditional music and dance performances, and large-scale shows that showcased the region’s cultural heritage were held throughout the day. Colorful parades took place through the city streets, bringing together residents and visitors in a joyful atmosphere.

The festivities concluded with an impressive fireworks show illuminating the night sky over Omsk, symbolizing the city's vibrant spirit. Various art exhibitions, craft fairs, and culinary festivals were organized, highlighting the creativity and traditions of the Omsk region.

Official ceremonies were held, with local government officials giving speeches honoring the city's history and development, and awards presented to distinguished citizens and contributors to the community. Thousands of runners participated in the Siberian International Marathon at Sobornaya Square, with the men's marathon being a four-way battle between three Kenyans and one Russian, won by Andrei Yanovich with a time of 2:17:52. The women's marathon was won by Alina Prokopyeva from Belgorod with a time of 2 hours 40 minutes.

The "Omsk - City of Craftsmen" exhibition was held on Museumnaya Street, offering various items for sale and continuing on Sunday. Museumnaya Street also featured a fashion show by local designers and masterclasses by stylists and hairdressers. The City Day events took place along Lyubinsky Prospekt and Omsk Fortress.

Jugglers, acrobats, and gymnasts performed on stage with a view of the Om River during the festival. The "Flora-2025" exhibition was solemnly opened in Omsk. The groups "In-Yan" and "Bratya Grimm" performed at the Omsk Fortress, while Julianna Karaulova, Vitaly Gogunsky, and the group "Diskoteka Avariya" sang on Sobornaya Square.

A historical reenactment of the battle between Peter's army and the Dzungars during the annexation of the Priirtyshye took place at the Omsk Fortress. The "Sunny Ray - Sunny City" festival took place at the Altufevsky Garden on Lyubinsky Prospekt, featuring all circus collectives from the region. The festivities concluded with a concert by Nikolai Rybukh, a Merited Artist of the Zabaykalsky Krai, at the Vrubel Museum in the evening.

These combined events created a memorable celebration that honoured Omsk’s rich history and the pride of its people on its 309th anniversary and the regional day in 2025. Despite the strong sun causing sunburn, the weather during the marathon was neither particularly cool nor hot, making it a comfortable day for the participants and spectators alike. The city of Omsk shone brightly, celebrating its heritage and looking forward to a promising future.
