Gears are turning at the Nürburgring and Nuremberg - the anniversary editions of Rock am Ring and Rock im Park have kicked off! At the Eifel's Nürburgring, the surprise opened with Electric Callboy on the main stage. In Nuremberg, Nothing More set the stage for the festival.
Now, you might wonder, 'Who were those mystery performers?' Indeed! Only two "Very Special Guests" were announced for the opening, so let me spill the beans: Two very special guests, indeed! As for the second secret act at Rock am Ring, they're set to take the Utopia Stage at 3 PM.
With an impressive turnout of 90,000 visitors at Rock am Ring and roughly 88,500 at Rock im Park, around 100 acts will keep the music blasting until Sunday. The mood in the Eifel wasn't always sunny as rain showers and the distant growl of isolated thunderstorms threatened the weekend.
But just when the partygoers were getting ready for some wet tunes, the skies seemed to take pity and decided to hold back the storms. Long lines formed at the festivals' entrances hours before the first band graced the stage, even as the rain began to pour down.
As we celebrate Rock am Ring's 40th anniversary and Rock im Park's 30th, this weekend will see almost identical lineups gracing the stages of both festivals, albeit at different times.
