Events Schedule for the 2024 Sports Liturgy

On Friday, 18th October, Team ND held a sports celebration in the Chapel, marking the start of a new season with a unique prayer service. The event, which aimed to celebrate the previous year's achievements and pray for the year ahead, was attended by Scott Broadley, Head of PE and Sport, and team representatives who lit candles during the service.

The prayer for Team ND's sports teams, addressed to the Lord, asked for strength, courage, and determination. It concluded with "Amen," signifying the unity and shared purpose of the team members, coaches, captains, and supporters present.

The prayer service, considered the perfect start for the new season, also included readings, prayers, and the singing of two hymns, Be Thou My Vision and Abide With Me, by the choir. A silent moment for prayer was observed for the upcoming season, further emphasising the spiritual aspect of the event.

The intersection of liturgy and team spirit in educational institutions, particularly those with a strong faith component, can provide spiritual support, community building, and an opportunity to integrate faith into daily life. In institutions like Notre Dame, teams might engage in team prayer sessions, Masses, or community service activities that reflect the institution's values.

Scott Broadley expressed his appreciation for the service, wishing the sports teams the best for the upcoming season. His sentiments reflected the spirit of unity and camaraderie that pervaded the event, as the teams prepared to embark on a new season with a shared prayer and a renewed sense of purpose.

During the sports celebration, football was among the sports mentioned for Team ND's new season. The unity and shared purpose of the team members, coaches, captains, and supporters were symbolized by the concluding "Amen" during the unique prayer service.
