Events in Düsseldorf: Japan Day - Information on What, How, Where, and When
Japan Day in Düsseldorf: A Magical Night Sky Awaits
Get ready for a spectacular event as Düsseldorf prepares to host the Japanese fireworks display, themed "Explore Japan - A Magical Night Sky," on May 24th. The event will take place at 11 PM and last for 25 minutes, offering a mesmerizing spectacle along the Rhine riverbank.
Guests are encouraged to spread out along the entire Rhine riverbank, from the Media Harbor to the Tonhalle, to secure the best viewing points. Hideki Kubota, a renowned fireworks master, will present the show.
To ensure a smooth event, several transportation adjustments have been made. City and street trams can pass the Oberkassel Bridge until the fireworks. However, during the display, the route will be temporarily not served. The bus lines 835, 836, M3, SB85, 850, and SB50 are affected by the bridge closures.
Relief services (line "E") will be in operation between "Hauptbahnhof" and "Heinrich-Heine-Allee" and between Hauptbahnhof and Oberkassel until around 2 am. For late-night transportation home, the usual Rheinbahn NightExpress bus lines and several regular bus lines will ensure smooth travel.
Safety measures are in place, with awareness teams on duty throughout the site. For added security, QR codes throughout the site can be used to request assistance or report incidents. In collaboration with the women's advisory service Düsseldorf e.V., support is organized using the code "Is Luisa here?" and a hotline is available from 2 to 10 pm for women who have been (sexually) harassed, pressured, or raped.
The event area along the Rhine promenade offers many good viewing points, making it an ideal spot to enjoy the fireworks. However, car traffic will be affected, with parking spaces at several locations difficult or impossible to reach on Japan Day. The Oberkassel bridge and the underpass of the bridge, Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring, will be extensively closed to traffic.
For those arriving by car, Park & Ride offers are available at CASTELLO Düsseldorf and at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA. E-scooters and rental bikes will also be affected, with inner-city sharing stations at certain locations deactivated.

Remember, the Japan Day stands for cultural diversity, openness, and considerate interaction. So, come along and immerse yourself in the magical night sky, exploring Japan's rich culture and traditions.
