Events in Düsseldorf - Details on What, How, Where, and When for Japan Day
Get ready for an exciting cultural extravaganza as Japan Day Düsseldorf returns on May 24th, 2025! This annual event promises a day and night filled with Japanese culture, performances, and activities for all ages.
The heart of the action will be at Burgplatz, where various groups, including TAIKO-KIDS, Todoroki Yosakoi Dance Group, Koto Group of the Japanese Club and the Japanese International School, and the J-Rock band ReaL, will take to the Main Stage. The Pop Culture Stage at Johannes-Rau-Platz will host events such as the Cosplay Contest, Karaoke Competition, and Super Act.
For those with a competitive spirit, the Sports Stage on the Lawn at the State Parliament offers a variety of sports competitions, including Judo, Kyudo, Iaido, Jiu-Jitsu, Kendo, Naginata, and Hokushin Itto-ryu Hyoho.
In the city centre, two stalls will offer Pokémon GO activities from 10 AM to 5 PM, with a Community Day Classic from 2 PM to 5 PM.
The highlight of the evening will be the Japanese fireworks display, held under the theme "Explore Japan - A Magical Night Sky" and beginning at 11 PM. Guests are encouraged to spread out along the entire Rhine for the fireworks.
For those planning to attend, tickets can be booked at www.dus.com/parkandride. City or street trams can pass the Oberkassel Bridge until the fireworks. Only during the fireworks, the route will be temporarily unavailable.
Buses Lines 726, 730, 732, 737, 754, 834, and 839 will run until around 1am, and lines O13, SB50, 780, 782, 785, and 831 until around 2am. Trams Lines 701, 704, 705, 706, 707, 708, and 709 will run until around 2am, and lines U72, U75, U77, and U78 will be running until around 1am, and lines U71, U73, U76, U79, and U83 until around 2am.
A bike detour has been set up for cyclists, and the Awareness teams will be on duty during the Japan Day. A Safe Space has been set up on the Lower Rhine Embankment, offering an alcohol-free outdoor area and enclosed retreat spaces.
Visitors can discover Japanese culture at around 90 stalls from 11 AM, including the Samurai encampment and Kyudo archery. Several drinking water stations will be provided by the city of Düsseldorf for visitors to refill their own bottles for free.
