The Asbach Hall, a modern three-court sports facility, has officially been opened in Oberasbach after eight years of planning and construction. The state-of-the-art sports hall can accommodate 120 athletes and up to 300 spectators, making it a significant addition to the city's sports infrastructure.

The opening ceremony was graced by the First Mayor Birgit Huber, Pastor Thomas Meister, and City Architect Vlad-Antoniu Lazar. The sports hall, named after the Asbach family who donated the land, is a testament to the city's commitment to fostering a vibrant and active community.

The construction process, however, was marked by numerous challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was a non-water-permeable rock and clay layer in the construction site, which required extensive drainage. This, along with other unexpected problems, led to a two-year delay and an increase in the originally budgeted cost of around 12 million euros to almost 20 million euros. The additional costs are attributed to general construction price increases and unforeseen issues during the construction process.

Despite these setbacks, city representatives have emphasized the Asbach Hall as a gain for the city. The sports hall boasts modern ventilation and heating technology, ensuring a comfortable environment for athletes and spectators alike. The roof of the Asbach Hall houses 514 photovoltaic modules, contributing to the city's renewable energy goals.

A slight lowering of the hall floor ensures cooler temperatures and glare-free light, enhancing the overall user experience. For the safety of local wildlife, a bird protection film was installed on the glass surfaces to prevent bird collisions.

The outdoor area of the Asbach Hall is set to be further greened in the coming months, offering seating areas, a climbing wall, a merry-go-round, a partner swing, and adult fitness equipment. This expansion aims to encourage community engagement and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Pastor Thomas Meister believes the Asbach Hall should become a place of encounter for people of different origins and generations. His vision aligns with the city's aspirations for the sports hall, positioning it as a hub for social interaction and community building.

Despite the lack of specific information about who assumed the role of city architect during the planning and construction of the Asbach-Hall in Oberasbach, the sports hall stands as a testament to the city's resilience and commitment to providing high-quality facilities for its residents.
