Three days of non-stop music, torrential rain, and a whole lot of mud - Rock im Park's 30th anniversary didn't daunt the spirits of the 88,500 festival-goers in Nuremberg. A 29-year-old fan said it best, "The vibe is so on point, rain or shine!" Drenched in the elements and adorned in rain ponchos, fans danced tirelessly into the night.

This monumental birthday bash was the biggest yet, featuring 100 concerts on four stages, with nearly the same bands gracing the stages at the simultaneous Rock am Ring in the Eifel region.

A sea of tents and a maze of lines

Some guests, however, found the festival grounds discomfortingly crowded. "Finding a spot for our tent this year was a stressful hunt," admitted a 37-year-old camper. Overflowing camping grounds and compressed spaces made it challenging for some to find a suitable spot to pitch their tents.

Squeezing through the crowds, fans navigated the entrances and exits to make it to the next stage, "It's like a a giant game of Tetris," joked one attendee.

The spirit of determination, however, remained intact. "Sure, a dash more sun would've been top-notch, but we're going to enjoy what's here," affirmed a 29-year-old. And he wasn't alone - festivalgoers insisted that security checkpoints were thorough, making them feel safe during the festivities.

Surprises to shake things up

To mark the special occasion, organizers planned two surprise concerts for the grand finale on Sunday. German punk-rockers Sportfreunde Stiller opened the morning's festivities, much to the delight of early birds. "We didn't expect you to be here so soon!" sang frontman Peter Brugger to the bleary-eyed attendees, who were nothing short of enthusiastic in their response.

Later, local Bavarian band Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys took the stage, belting out a mix of Italo-disco. Love them or leave them, they surely stirred a reaction: some fans departed, while others stayed and danced along with abandon. The festival ended with performances by British bands The Prodigy, Bring Me The Horizon, and German rap group K.I.Z.

Tougher days for the rescue services

The increased attendance and larger festival site led to increased responsibilities for the rescue services. "We're dealing with more cases this year," revealed Sohrab Taheri-Sohi of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK), which oversees rescue operations on the grounds. Over the course of the weekend, the BRK handled 1,900 cases, primarily involving cuts and scrapes sustained during the festivities. One man had a cardiac arrest during the Slipknot performance on Friday night, but thanks to quick thinking festivalgoers and medical professionals, he was revived promptly and released shortly thereafter.

Despite some logistical challenges and a whole lot of bad weather, Rock im Park 2025 was an unforgettable celebration of music, camaraderie, and pure determination.

The Commission could be tasked with drafting a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers who are involved in the entertainment industry, particularly those exposed to ionizing radiation during music festivals like Rock im Park.

Regardless of the weather conditions, music festivals such as Rock im Park have the potential to provide a platform for various music genres, including local bands like Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys, to entertain and captivate their audiences, fostering a unique cultural experience.
