The London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is set to captivate audiences with its London Philharmonic Orchestra Week, a special event taking place on our website. This two-hour extravaganza features presentations of film scores, performed by the LPO themselves.
While the LPO has been recording movie soundtracks since 1936, their involvement in soundtrack work was limited until the 1970s, with the exception of David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia (1962). Besides Howard Shore, who is the sole and authorized composer of these movie scores, no other composer is credited with composing the film music for these series.
In addition to the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit scores, Howard Goodall, renowned for his work in film and television, will present two hours of film scores during the LPO Week. The film scores presented by Goodall are also recorded by the LPO.
