Evangelicals in Spain appeal for prayers amidst the floods: "The waters have risen to the level of the sea"

The Valencia region in Spain has been hit hard by a series of devastating floods, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The floods have swept away bridges, reached neighboring areas, and disrupted daily life for many.

The death toll from the floods has risen significantly, with at least 158 people confirmed dead and dozens still missing. The town of Paiporta, located in the southern part of Valencia, has been particularly affected, with at least 40 people reported dead in this municipality alone. The mayor of Paiporta, María Isabel Albalat, stated that the town is "isolated" due to the floods.

The floods have affected various areas, including Valencia city, Sarrauza, Ontinyent, and other parts of eastern Spain. Streets have turned into dangerous waterways, submerging vehicles and disrupting traffic. Emergency crews have been actively responding amid persistent storm threats, with warnings issued about ongoing dangerous conditions.

The Spanish government, led by President Pedro Sánchez, has pledged its full support in helping those affected. The president has declared three days of national mourning and declared the area "highly affected". The government has also stated that it will provide all the resources of the state and the European Union to aid in the recovery efforts.

The Spanish evangelical community is also mobilizing to help those affected by the floods. Evangelical Focus, a Christian news platform, has launched the #OneMoreYearEF campaign to encourage support for those in need. The Federation of Evangelical Religious Entities of Spain (Ferede) has opened a bank account for donations to aid in the relief efforts.

Some members of the Utiel church congregation are among the missing, and the state of the premises where the church meets is unknown. The evangelical community is encouraging prayers for the deceased families and those affected by the floods. They are also encouraging support with resources and assistance to bring relief and comfort to those affected.

Other churches and evangelical organizations, such as the Spanish Evangelical Alliance and the regional Valencian Evangelical Council, and Church denominations such as the free evangelical churches (FIEIDE), have also opened bank accounts for donations.

For those who wish to learn more about the #OneMoreYearEF campaign or to make a donation, more information can be found on Evangelical Focus's website. The flood situation in Valencia is ongoing, and updates on the relief efforts can be found on local news outlets and church organization websites.
