Annual Rally Against Violence Against Women Held in Madrid

On the 25th of November, the Council for Women's Affairs of the Evangelical Council of Madrid (CEM) hosted its eighth annual rally against violence against women in the heart of the Spanish capital. The event, held in a church in Madrid, was attended by representatives of various organising bodies, evangelical men and women, and hundreds of people.

The rally denounced violence against women in various forms, including physical, psychological, human trafficking, and prostitution. A poignant moment came when 42 candles were held, each representing a woman murdered in Spain this year, for whom a one-minute silence was observed.

Isabel Pérez Moñino, the spokesperson for Vox in the Madrid Assembly, and María Belén González Moreno, the head of the Women's Commission, were among the attendees. Vox expressed their position against all violence, including violence against women, and their opposition to caricatures made of them. However, representatives of the PP and PSOE parties were conspicuously absent.

Pablo García Yimber, a rapper, performed a powerful song titled "Woman, you are worth much more" at the event. Impact Kerygma (YWAM youth directed by Indira Sanchez) also performed a depiction of emotional dependencies, toxic relationships, and their bondage.

Asun Quintana, president of the Seneca Falls platform and the Women and Society Working Group of the Spanish Evangelical Alliance, delivered a paraphrase of a gospel scene at the event. Ester Burgués, the CEM women's counsellor, also gave a presentation.

The event offered support from the evangelical churches to those looking for a way out from violence. The attendees also stated their fight for women, motherhood, and their opposition to gender ideology, which they believe fundamentally discriminates against women.

Despite extensive searches, there is no verified information available about the history and details of these annual rallies organized by the Evangelical Council of Madrid since 2016. However, it is known that for eight years, evangelical women's associations in Madrid have spoken out against violence to women on the International day for the violence against women.

Regrettably, this year's event did not mention the #OneMoreYearEF campaign, a significant initiative in the fight against gender-based violence in Spain.

  1. The event's attendees expressed their opposition to gender ideology, believing it discriminates against women, and stated their fight for women and motherhood, indicating a focus on general-news and lifestyle issues.
  2. The rally, in addition to denouncing various forms of violence against women such as physical and psychological abuse, also addressed emotional dependencies and toxic relationships in relationships, highlighting a concern for relationships within the lifestyle context.
