Evaluation: Taurus GX2 Gun Model

Taurus, the American firearms manufacturer, has unveiled a new addition to its lineup – the GX2 pistol. The gun was launched at the prestigious Gunsite Academy, demonstrating Taurus's confidence in the pistol's performance.

Design and Features

The GX2 is a recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger. It boasts a double-column/single-feed magazine with a capacity of 13 rounds, making it a reliable choice for self-defence. The magazine's design allows for a small circumference at the top of the grip, providing a comfortable hold.

The GX2's slide and barrel assembly mimic the design of the GX4's, with upper and front bevels for easy concealed carry. The slide does not have a notch cut for an optic, keeping the design simple and straightforward.

The grip module of the GX2 offers eight available colours and a unique stippling pattern, allowing users to customise the pistol to their preference.

User-Friendly and Reliable

The GX2 is described as user-friendly, reliable, and feature-packed. It uses a striker-fired action and has a modular fire-control chassis, ensuring smooth operation and easy maintenance. The pistol's trigger has a take-up, a solid wall, and breaks cleanly at 6 lbs., 4 ozs., with a short and positive reset.

Disassembly is made easier with an external takedown lever, a feature that is more user-friendly compared to the GX4's screwdriver-assisted method.

Performance and Accessories

The GX2 was tested at the Gunsite Academy and performed well on the Academy's ranges. Sights on the GX2 are made of metal and consist of a fixed front post with a white dot and a dovetailed notched rear with a serrated face.

Taurus is offering an extended 15-round GX2 magazine as an accessory, providing users with more ammunition capacity when needed. The holster market was prepared for the GX2's release, with options such as the IWB PHLster Skeleton and the OWB UM Tactical Qualifier available.

Pricing and Availability

The GX2 is positioned as an affordable option in Taurus's firearm lineup, making "protection accessible to every American." The black-slide version of the GX2 has an MSRP of $310, which is approximately $175 less than the GX4 Carry.

Taurus USA provided the Taurus GX2 at the famous Gunsite Academy, further demonstrating the company's confidence in the pistol's performance and reliability. The GX2's unique design, user-friendly features, and affordable price make it an attractive choice for those seeking a reliable and accessible self-defence option.
