🏙️ City Center Locked Down 🔒Cologne is facing one of its biggest evacuations since World War II, with a substantial portion of the city center shut down to allow experts to defuse three American bombs. The bomb squad can only begin work once about 20,000 people have left their homes in a 1,000-meter radius surrounding the bomb site. The initial checks can take hours given the vast scale of the evacuation.
🏥 Cultural Landmarks Impacted 🎨The City's cultural scene is feeling the repercussions of the evacuation, with important cultural landmarks such as the Museum Ludwig, Wallraf-Richartz Museum, and Musical Dome falling within the evacuation area. The defusal operation can only begin once residents in the 1,000-meter radius surrounding the site have left their homes. Multiple hotels, schools, hospitals, museums, office buildings, and transportation hubs, including the Cologne-Messe/Deutz train station, are part of the evacuation area.
