Evacuations ordered in Lake Piru area due to fire spreading through Canyon in Ventura County

Canyon Fire Continues to Impact Communities Near Ventura-Los Angeles County Line

The Canyon Fire, currently burning near Castaic, Piru, and areas along the Ventura-Los Angeles County border, is about 78% contained as of Sunday evening, August 10, 2025. The blaze has burned 5,370 acres and stopped growing since Friday[1].

Firefighters have made significant progress and are continuing to monitor and strengthen containment lines due to ongoing hot temperatures and potential wind gusts up to 25 mph[1]. Despite the high containment, the fire situation remains under active management due to weather concerns and remaining evacuation zones in both counties[1][4].

Evacuation Zones and Updates:

Evacuation orders for 2,700 residents were lifted on Friday, August 8[1]. However, current evacuation orders remain in effect for several zones in Los Angeles County, including CAS-GOLDENSTATE C & D, CAS-ROMERO, CAS-OAKCANYON, CAS-HASLEY, CAS-VALVERDE B & D[4]. In Ventura County, orders remain for zones PIRU-01, PIRU-14, LAKP-04, LAKP-05, and LAKP-06[4].

Evacuation warnings are in place for additional zones in both LA County (CAS-GOLDENSTATE B, CAS-GREENHILL, CAS-SLOAN, CAS-HILLCREST, CAS-CAMBRIDGE, CAS-VALVERDE A & C, CAS-INDUSTRY) and Ventura County (LAKP-01, LAKP-02)[4].

Impact and Resources:

The fire has destroyed 7 structures, and three firefighters have been injured, including a serious injury to a Kern County Fire Battalion Chief in Castaic[1]. About 1,100 firefighters worked on the fire at peak, with some personnel possibly being released to other incidents now[1]. Current resources include 45 engines, 7 helicopters, 3 dozers, 9 hand crews, totaling 391 personnel actively assigned[4].

Firefighting efforts include air tankers, ground crews, and multiple agencies such as Ventura County Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, CAL FIRE, US Forest Service, and others cooperating[4].

Communities Affected:

Road closures and evacuations impact key roads like Canyon Road and Del Valle Road near Piru[3][4]. The fire is moving east at a rapid speed, threatening powerlines and the communities of Hasley Canyon and Hathaway Ranch. The fire continued to grow throughout the night and is slowly burning closer to the 5 Freeway. Piru Canyon Road is closed at Main Street.

Stay Informed:

Residents in prescribed evacuation zones should stay alert and follow official evacuation orders and warnings. For more detailed information on the evacuations in Ventura County, visit the Incident Map and Dashboard. For the LA County side, visit Cal Fire for more information.
