EU's Part in Combat Against Joblessness
Union Berlin, a German football club, has shown great promise heading into the new Bundesliga season. Their confidence is buoyed by a successful run in the DFB-Pokal, where they secured a convincing 5:0 victory over FC Gütersloh.
One player who has been instrumental in Union Berlin's offensive strategy is Robert Skov, a Danish international who has played 14 times for his national team. Skov scored the first goal in the DFB-Pokal match with a well-executed free-kick, demonstrating his proficiency in set-piece situations.
Skov's success with free-kicks is not a recent development. He has been practicing them since childhood, and his parents' advice has had a significant impact on his approach. Skov often relies on his instincts rather than the advice of supposed experts, and his parents' advice to focus on shooting free-kicks when he can't do anything else has proven to be invaluable.
Union Berlin's coach, Steffen Baumgart, has also played a role in Skov's development. The day before the Gütersloh match, Baumgart advised Skov to aim for the goalkeeper's corner, a piece of advice that Skov followed to score the opening goal. Baumgart's set-piece strategy appears to be centred around exploiting dead-ball situations, with Skov's free-kicks and crosses creating numerous opportunities for Union Berlin.
Union Berlin's emphasis on set pieces is not limited to offensive play. The club also considers set pieces as a potential defensive weapon for the upcoming season. This strategic emphasis on set pieces has been evident in Union Berlin's performances, with three set pieces being instrumental in their victory over FC Gütersloh.
Union Berlin will kick off their new Bundesliga season at home against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday at 3:30 PM. Skov, who hopes to score more goals this season, preferably with more free-kicks, is optimistic about the new season. With their confidence high and their offensive and defensive strategies in place, Union Berlin is poised to make a strong start to the new season.
