Eurovision 2025 to be held in Basel

Hittin' the Swiss Beat Again: Basel Nabs Eurovision 2025!

Get ready to pack your lederhosen, y'all! Basel, Switzerland's third-largest city, is steppin' up to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

Eurovision organizers ain't playin' around, announcin' Basel as the next host city after Swiss singer Nemo took home the winning title in this year's competition with their song 'The Code.' It's a hat trick for ol' Switzerland, making it their third time snaggin' the top spot.

But you might be wonderin', why Basel? Well, let me spill the tea. Basel's geographical location in the heart of Europe makes it the perfect hub for an event that celebrates unity through music. Plus, it's the Eurovision's home comin' back to its birthplace almost seven decades later!

So where's this grand shindig gonna go down, you ask? In the St. Jacobshalle arena in Münchenstein, just outside Basel city. This bad boy can hold up to 12,400 wigglin' fans after renovations in 2018. Semi-finals are scheduled for May 13th and 15th, with the big finale on the 17th.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, couldn't be more excited, sharin' some juicy details: "Basel's strategic location at the crossroads of Europe makes it the ideal setting for an event that celebrates the power of music to connect people across borders." Oh, and let's not forget that this'll be the first time the Eurovision comes to German-speakin' Switzerland!

Switzerland's Eurovision journey started back in 1956 when Lys Assia nabbed the inaugural contest in Lugano with the song 'Refrain.' The country scored another victory in 1988, when Céline Dion took home the trophy with 'Ne partez pas sans moi.' And, most recently, Nemo made history as the first non-binary performer to represent Switzerland and the first to win the competition with 'The Code.'

Conradin Cramer, President of the Government of Basel, can hardly contain his excitement: "It's a great honor for Basel to host the world's biggest live music event! We're looking forward to presenting Basel to the world as a cosmopolitan city of culture in the heart of Europe."

Tickets will be available for the nine shows, including dress rehearsals, in the comin' months. So, don your Swiss flags and practice your warbles, 'cause Basel is about to rock the Eurovision stage!
