Europeans might potentially attend Putin's second scheduled meeting with Trump
In a recent development, President Donald Trump has proposed a multi-nation summit involving European leaders, Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The proposed summit aims to discuss the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
During a White House appearance, Trump mentioned the possibility of including European leaders in a potential second meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the exact nature and terms of any potential negotiations have not been specified.
The Alaska summit, which is yet to be scheduled, seems to be a precursor to this proposed second meeting. Trump sees the Alaska summit primarily as a stepping stone towards a larger discussion.
The location of the potential second meeting with Putin remains undetermined. Trump did not confirm or deny if he would offer Putin access to rare earths, important for the electronics industry, in negotiations.
In a recent conversation with Putin, Trump suggested that Zelensky meet with Putin first, before a trilateral meeting including Trump himself. However, Putin only agreed to appoint senior officials for the next round of talks and rejected NATO troops enforcing security guarantees in Ukraine.
When asked about a potential reduction in NATO troops in Europe, Trump stated that no such proposal had been presented to him. He did express optimism, stating that he believes Putin and Zelensky would make peace.
The focus of the potential second meeting between Trump and Putin will be the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has been ongoing since February 2022. The potential discussion about a reduction in NATO troops in Europe is not currently agreed upon by all parties involved.
