In the heart of the picturesque Rhön region, Fischbach, Germany, will host the first-ever Rhön Distance Ride on the 30th and 31st of August. This unique equestrian event promises to challenge both riders and horses as they traverse the open landscapes of the Rhön biosphere reserve.

The Rhön Distance Ride is not your typical equestrian competition. It focuses on the well-being and harmony of the horse and rider team, prioritising a harmonious cooperation to cover long distances through nature. Unlike classical dressage or show jumping tournaments, the Rhön Distance Ride emphasises quick yet gentle pacing, rider's skill, horse's fitness and agility, a clever pacing strategy, and mutual trust in the human-horse team.

Participants can choose from four routes of varying distances: 26, 47, 62, or 88 kilometers. All routes start at the sports field in Fischbach, leading through the Hohe Asch, Roßhof, and Ibengarden. The event takes place in a calcareous meadow with a view of gentle mountain ranges, providing a breathtaking backdrop for this endurance test.

The competition includes essential veterinary checks to ensure the horses' health and fitness. These checks focus on the horse's pulse, breathing, gait, and overall condition before, during, and after the ride. Participants can only continue or finish the ride in the rankings if they pass all veterinary checks.

The Rhön Distance Ride is open to both professionals and distance riding newcomers. To participate, riders must have adequate endurance riding experience, and their horses must be fit and well-trained to cover the set distance comfortably. Interested spectators can watch the experienced riders of the longer distances (47 to 88 kilometers) on the 30th of August. For those new to distance riding or curious individuals, an introductory ride of 26 kilometers is available on the 31st of August.
