On August 28th, the State Commissioner for Regional Development, Dr. Ulrike Witt, paid a visit to the Canal-Fuhse region, located in the west of the city of Peine. The visit was part of Dr. Witt's summer tour and was accompanied by MEP Bernd Lange.
The Canal-Fuhse region, consisting of six villages - Berkum, Eixe, Röhrse, Rosenthal/Hofschwicheldt, Schwicheldt, and Vöhrum/Landwehr - has been part of Lower Saxony's village development program since 2017. Since its inclusion, numerous private and public measures have been implemented in the region.
During the visit, Dr. Witt and MEP Lange were taken on a tour of the region, during which they inspected various public measures. In Schwicheldt, they examined the redesign of the village center and the conversion of a former stable into an old-age home. The village park in Vöhrum was another project that caught their attention.
The local mayors, Dr. Reinhardt and Mr. Bartscht, presented the public measures implemented in their respective villages and were photographed during the visit. The First Mayor of the city of Peine, Hans-Jürgen Tarrey, received Dr. Witt and MEP Lange at the town hall.
Around 3.8 million euros in funding have been allocated to various applicants for projects in the Canal-Fuhse region. The search results do not provide the names of the two mayors present at the Canal-Fuhse area inspection with Dr. Witt and Bernd Lange.
The visit concluded with a positive outlook on the progress made in the region, and a commitment to continue supporting its development. The Canal-Fuhse region is well on its way to becoming a model for sustainable rural development in Lower Saxony.
