European Romanians demonstrated notable support for Donald Trump, according to a survey

** Trump's Second Term and Romania's Pro-Trump Outlook**

Six months into Donald Trump's second term as the President of the United States, Romanian citizens seem to be rallying behind the controversial leader, turning out to be the most pro-Trump Europeans. A substantial number believe that his presidency is a boon, not just for the country, but for worldwide peace as well.

According to a 2025 opinion poll conducted by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) across 12 European countries, are Romanians. The survey, published on June 24, revealed that 41% of Romanians consider Trump's election a good thing for world peace, while 21% believe it's a bad thing. The remaining 38% maintain a neutral stance.

In the same survey, Romanians topped the list in terms of their belief that Donald Trump's presidency is a good choice for their country. This was followed by Hungarians (29%) and Poles (25%), while 22% of Romanians believe it's a bad thing, and 48% see it as neither.

Interestingly, one-third of Romanians (33%), like the Poles, feel that Trump's election is a good thing for American citizens, trailing only behind Hungarians (36%) and Estonians (34%).

Romania and Hungary stand out when compared to the rest of the countries included in the survey. While citizens in most countries have a negative opinion of Trump concerning all three aspects—World Peace, their own countries, and American citizens—majorities in half of the countries, such as Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, hold a negative opinion of Trump on all three fronts.

Despite the positive outlook, a trend has emerged against the US President. "Europeans everywhere, even in more Trump-sympathetic Hungary and Romania, have become more pessimistic about his presidency since his election win. There has been a generalized move in this direction," the surveyors note.

The survey was conducted in 12 European countries — Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Hungary — with approximately 1,000 people interviewed in each country during the second half of May. The European Council on Foreign Relations commissioned the survey to several well-known surveying institutes, such as Datapraxis, YouGov, and Norstat.

Why the Positive Views?

While the specific reasons behind Romanians' positive views towards Donald Trump's presidency are not explicitly stated in the search results, some plausible factors can be inferred. These may include:

  1. Geopolitical and Economic Perceptions: Romanians might perceive economic or geopolitical advantages in Trump's presidency, leading them to support it.
  2. Cultural or Ideological Alignments: There could be cultural or ideological parallels between Trump's populist or nationalist policies and aspects of Romanian politics or societal values.
  3. Historical or Leadership Preferences: A preference for strong leadership styles might be present among some Romanians, contributing to positive views of Trump.

For a deeper understanding of Romania's outlook in 2024, more specific research findings or additional data from that year would be necessary.

  1. Reflecting the findings of the 2025 ECFR survey, it appears that policy-and-legislation aspects related to war-and-conflicts and migration may play a role in Romania's pro-Trump outlook, as a significant portion of Romanian respondents view Trump's election as beneficial for world peace.
  2. In the realm of politics and general-news, it's worth noting that the positive views towards Trump's presidency in Romania could be attributed to geopolitical and economic perceptions, cultural or ideological alignments, or historical or leadership preferences, as inferred from the survey results.
