European politician's proposal: Achieving EU membership in a decade is feasible

Scotland, rich in energy resources, is keen on direct exports to Germany and potentially joining the EU, according to Angus Robertson, the Minister for Foreign Relations in the Edinburgh regional government.

Robertson's focus remains on a close partnership with the EU and Germany, particularly from an economic perspective. He has been in regular contact with German ministries and companies regarding plans to export hydrogen and renewable energy.

The plans for hydrogen exports are in addition to the ongoing efforts for a second referendum on Scotland's EU membership. Robertson stated that the referendum "will come." Work on the referendum is already underway, according to him.

However, the occurrence of the referendum is dependent on the British government agreeing to a Scottish independence referendum. To date, the British government has not yet agreed to such a referendum.

The possibility of direct exports between Scotland and Germany exists, but a concrete starting time for the hydrogen exports is initially unclear. This uncertainty is due to the complexity of infrastructure development, the need for significant regulatory approvals, and the evolving nature of energy policies and technologies in both countries.

Robertson believes a united Ireland could also join the EU within a decade. He indicated that London's self-absorption should not hinder Scotland's efforts for a referendum.

The Scottish National Party (SNP) is pushing for the referendum to decide on rejoining the EU. The main obstacle to this, according to Robertson, is British politicians who do not want to lose Scotland.

In addition to the energy exports, Scotland is planning a network for electricity and hydrogen from renewable energy sources. The network, if realised, could potentially extend to Germany.

The SNP is responsible for independence in the Edinburgh regional government, and Robertson has been vocal about the need for a close partnership with the EU and Germany. His vision includes a united Scotland with a strong economic alliance with its European neighbours.
