The 18th Island Festival is set to take place from September 30th to October 3rd, 2021, on Hombroich Island, Germany. Organised by the Verein zur Förderung des Kunst- und Kulturraumes Hombroich e.V., this year's festival promises an exciting and diverse series of nine events, curated by Dr. Rainer Wiertz.
On the first day of the festival, Italian harpsichordist Luca Quintavalle will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations. The German Aris Quartet will follow on the final day with a unique combination of Pavel Haas' String Quartet Op. 15 and Felix Mendelssohn's String Quartet Op. 44 No. D major.
Pianist Matan Porat will conclude the Saturday evening event with a program centered around the piano piece "Janus" by Israeli composer Mordecai Seter. The British a cappella ensemble, Gesualdo Six, will perform a journey through space and time on the third day of the festival.
Cuarteto Casals will bridge from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Dmitri Shostakovich on the second day of the festival. The Alinde Quartet will perform a combination of a world premiere by SJ Hanke, works by Henry Purcell, and other pieces on the same day.
Pianist Florian Höhscher will give a solo recital featuring works by Alberto Posadas on the final day of the festival. The festival will conclude with a concert featuring pianist Samson Tsoy, violinist Tobias Feldmann, clarinetist Nicolas Baldeyrou, and cellist Andrei Ionita, performing Olivier Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time."
A reading, "Hombroich: Poetry," featuring authors Michael Lentz and Ingo Schulze, invited by Oswald Egger, will also take place on the third day of the festival.
