In a bid to foster democratic coexistence, a workshop is scheduled to take place in Neustadt, Holstein on July 17th. The event, organised by PfD Neustadt, aims to share experiences, gather new perspectives, and develop ideas for a more democratic Neustadt.

The workshop is open to all interested citizens, municipal representatives, and those who have already participated in the previous focus groups. Danny Seidel from the Neustadt PfD team emphasises the importance of broad participation in the discussion, stating that democracy thrives on participation and encourages as many people as possible to share their viewpoints.

One of the key challenges that the workshop aims to address is effective local governance. Balancing the needs of the community with regional and national policies can be a complex task. Encouraging civic participation and engagement in local democratic processes can also be a challenge, especially in smaller communities like Neustadt. Allocating resources effectively to meet the needs of a smaller community while maintaining democratic principles can be difficult.

However, democracy offers opportunities for community development. Residents of Neustadt can have a say in local decisions, fostering a sense of ownership and engagement. The small size of Neustadt might also facilitate innovation and collaboration among community members and local government. Addressing environmental issues through democratic processes can be more effective in smaller communities, where local concerns are more readily addressed.

The workshop discussion will focus on the results of a comprehensive survey conducted by Camino gGmbH since April 2025 for PfD Neustadt. The evening will present the first analysis results and focus on a shared dialogue in interactive formats, including a World Café on key topics and a moderated Fishbowl discussion. The goal of the research is to make visible both problem areas related to anti-democratic tendencies and potential for promoting democracy locally.

The workshop evening offers space for exchange and networking, according to Seidel. Registration for catering purposes is requested by July 11th via email to [email protected]. The results of the research will form a central basis for the future strategy and project work of PfD in Neustadt. The workshop discussion will take place at the Jacob-Lienau-School cafeteria from 6 pm to 9 pm.
