European MP Nathalie Loiseau asserts that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has been averted from its potential severity for Europe.

In a series of discussions with various European countries and the USA, President Donald Trump has been exploring security guarantees for Ukraine. These guarantees, yet to be specified by Trump, involve a multi-layered defense framework similar to NATO's Article 5 mutual defense pact.

The proposed defense framework emphasizes the strengthening of the Ukrainian armed forces to independently defend the country after a peace deal or long-term ceasefire. The second layer consists of security guarantees provided by Europe and the United States, potentially including a European-led military force supported by U.S. strategic assets such as intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, command and control, air defense, aircraft, logistics, and ground-based radar. This comprehensive support aims to enforce a no-fly zone and air shield over Ukraine.

European officials are urging Trump to use his influence to pressure Vladimir Putin during their upcoming meeting. They view a strong, coordinated Western backing, including U.S. support for European troops deployed in Ukraine, as essential to deter future Russian aggression. The Europeans believe Trump can leverage U.S. influence to push Russia toward accepting these postwar security arrangements that would ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, expects these security guarantees to be put on paper and made official within a week to ten days. Nathalie Loiseau, a prominent European official, has expressed regret that Trump puts pressure on his allies but not on the adversaries of peace and security. She has also called on Trump to put pressure on Putin, and has urged for the Europeans to be present at the meeting between Putin and Zelensky.

As the discussions continue, the world waits to see how these security guarantees will unfold and what impact they will have on the future of Ukraine and its relationship with Russia.
