European Law Enforcement in Saxony-Anhalt Initiate Another Round of Continental Speed Monitoring Operations

In the heart of Germany, Saxony-Anhalt is gearing up for two speed control weeks in 2025. The first will take place from the 7th to the 13th of April, followed by the second from the 4th to the 10th of August [1]. These campaigns are part of the European speed control week, an initiative by the ROADPOL network aimed at improving safety on European roads.

The state police in Saxony-Anhalt will be using a variety of traffic monitoring techniques for speed control. This includes handheld and large-scale devices, as well as enforcement trailers [1]. The police force will be focusing on high-risk areas, highways, and urban zones, setting up radar traps especially on known accident-prone roads and stretches with special risk factors such as near schools, hospitals, and construction sites [1][2][3].

The aim of these speed control weeks is to reduce speeding-related accidents and enhance overall road safety [1][3]. Last year's August speed week in Saxony-Anhalt saw hundreds of drivers caught speeding, including extreme cases like a driver clocked at 321 km/h on a 120 km/h road [2][3]. Authorities emphasise that speeding endangers all road users and strict adherence to limits is crucial to safety [2][3].

The European speed control week "Speed" is taking place from August 4th to 10th, 2025, as part of the ROADPOL network. During the "Speed Marathon" day, around 30,000 vehicles were checked [1]. Dr. Tamara Zieschang, the Interior Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, thanks all participating officers in advance for their commitment.

These efforts contribute significantly to Saxony-Anhalt's road safety goals by addressing speeding, a major accident risk factor, through focused control periods and heightened public awareness [1][2][3]. Dr. Zieschang states that intensified speed controls are an effective way to combat speeding and raise awareness of road safety.

The ROADPOL network plans annual European-wide traffic monitoring actions. In addition to speed control, the police of Saxony-Anhalt will also participate in actions related to the control of commercial goods and passenger transport this year [1]. The European speed control week is aimed at enhancing safety for all road users.
