German Hockey Teams Shine in EuroHockey Championship

The German hockey teams are making waves at the 2025 EuroHockey Championship, with both the men's and women's teams showcasing impressive performances so far.

The German women's team kicked off their campaign with a confident 4-1 win over France, thanks to goals from Lena Micheel from Großflottbeker GHTC and Sara Strauss of Duesseldorfer HC. Strauss, who scored in her EM debut, was joined by Sophia Schwabe, another player from Duesseldorfer HC, who netted two goals in her first tournament match.

However, the women's team has faced some challenges, with a 1-5 loss to the Netherlands and a 0-0 draw against Ireland in Pool A. Despite these setbacks, they managed to secure a spot in the semi-finals with a 3-2 shootout victory over Belgium following a 1-1 match.

On the other hand, the German men's team has been consistently strong. They started with a 4-1 win over Spain, followed by a 10-0 victory against Poland, and a draw against England in Pool B. They demonstrated their comeback quality in their match against England, coming back from a 0-1 deficit to secure a draw. In a later stage, they won a shootout 3-2 against Belgium after a 1-1 draw.

The men's team's journey continues, with their most recent win being a 4-1 victory over Spain in the semi-finals. The women's team, meanwhile, are looking forward to their match against the Dutch top team.

Coach Janneke Schopman, who took over the women's team, believes they can beat any team, including the Dutch. Experienced goalkeeper Julia Sonntag, who knows the challenge the Dutch team presents, shares this sentiment. Sonntag emphasizes the importance of scoring in the first game to gain confidence, and she trusts coach Schopman's understanding of the Dutch team.

National coach André Henning stated that the game against England was one of their best, while Thies Prinz, who played his 100th international game for the German team, expressed satisfaction with the draw against England. Gonzalo Peillat scored a crucial goal for the men's team during their match against England.

As the tournament progresses, both teams are proving their competitive spirit and resilience. With the semi-finals and finals yet to come, the German hockey teams are eager to continue their impressive run.
