Gathering of Meerbusch Residents: Open Discussion on 'Integration - A Benefit for All?' on June 17, 7:30 PM at AWO Meeting Center, Büderich.

European Council applauds Commission's initiative to commence fresh dialogue on the forthcoming state of the European Union.

Let's Hang with Volkan Baran, NRW State Parliament Member and Integration Spokesperson

Chantal Messing, the brains behind the informal discussion series, is bringing the conversation to the Meerbuschers. She wants to dive into practical ways Meerbusch can foster successful integration and where there's space for improvements. Volkan Baran will kick off the chat by addressing current integration hurdles and presenting practical strategies for an inclusive, welcoming society in Meerbusch.

"Collaboration is key for a thriving integration scene," Chantal Messing emphasizes. "Let's chat it up, Meerbusch!" This time, discussions will connect various political sectors – from city to district to state – to brainstorm on how integration through sports, schools, arts, and culture can be enhanced locally. There are numerous Meerbuschers already doing incredible integration work, and it's vital to hear their stories to keep the progress rolling.

Messing also stresses her frustration with the general migration debate focusing too much on issues and not enough on triumphant integration. She believes that airing problems, grumbling about them, and getting stuck on what's not working won't cut it. Instead, it fosters a divisive 'them against us' mentality, far from a solution.

The event will invite an array of guests to spark lively debates and bring together diverse political levels. Audiences will still have the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and engage actively in the conversation. All opinions will matter, and the exchange will be constructive. Alongside Volkan Baran as a speaker, Nicole Niederdellmann-Siemes, Meerbusch's mayoral candidate, Hakan Temel, district council candidate for Rhein-Kreis Neuss and long-standing member of the integration council in Neuss, and Dita Elten, SPD candidate for Boehler settlement and electoral district 12, will also join the chat.

The AWO meeting center, Am Kapittelsbusch 29 in Buedrich, opens its doors at 7 p.m. Admission is complimentary. Be sure to register early at [email protected].

Note: Here are some strategies to improve integration through sports, schools, arts, and culture:

  • Sports: Organize community events, create inclusive programs, and reinforce intercultural harmony through shared athletic achievements.
  • Schools: Integrate diverse cultural insights into curricula, establish inclusive school policies, and bridge gaps with language support programs and courses.
  • Arts: Host cultural exhibitions, participate in collaborative art projects, and organize cultural festivals that celebrate diversity and foster cultural exchange.
  • Culture: Offer language classes, encourage participatory cultural events, and build stronger communities by promoting unity and shared identity.

In the context of the upcoming informal discussion, participants will delve into how politics and policy-and-legislation can be leveraged to strengthen integration in Meerbusch through various platforms such as sports, schools, arts, and culture. Discussions will also touch upon the need to move away from general news-focused debates that often focus on problems, instead focusing on success stories and solutions to build a more inclusive and welcoming community.
