European conquest target for Turkish series' actors - European conquest sought by renowned Turkish television figures
Hold onto your popcorn, folks, because the European TV landscape is about to witness a cultural revolution! The buzzing city of Cologne is gearing up for an event that'll set tongues wagging and hearts racing - the premiere of the Turkish TV series "Reminder."
With a whopping 3.2 million individuals of Turkish descent in Germany, Turkish culture's influence on local TV and films has been somewhat understated. But fear not, because the Turkish TV sensation "Reminder" is here to change that! On June 18, Disney+ will bring this captivating series to our screens, and a new Turkish TV reign may well be upon us.
A Star-Studded Spectacle
Set to catapult German viewers into the heart of Turkish show business, "Reminder" stars none other than the mesmerizing Hande Ercel and the dashing Barış Arduç. These two shining stars of Turkish cinema have garnered massive followings, with Ercel's Instagram account boasting an impressive 32 million followers, and Arduç's profile boasting over 7 million.
Ercel, the leading lady at 31, is acknowledged as one of the most internationally successful Turkish actresses. Her claim to fame came when she starred in the series "Sen Çal Kapımı," which aired in a staggering 85 countries. The series was a hit across Europe and in Latin America, paving the way for Turkish TV's global domination.
Arduç, too, has built a solid TV résumé, winning fame for his role in "Kiralık Aşk," which garnered international recognition from 2015 to 2017. Recently, he could be seen in the Netflix series "Kuluç," which attracted a global streaming audience.
In "Reminder," Arduç takes on the role of architect Deniz, while Ercel plays the vibrant influencer Güneş. The couple, who were once on the brink of marriage, find their lives turned upside-down six months after their separation, thanks to an enigmatic message they both receive. The script is the brainchild of Ahmet Vatan, with Özgür Önurme directing the series.
The Global Rise of Turkish TV
The timing for "Reminder" couldn't be better. As it turns out, Turkish TV series have become a global phenomenon, attracting audiences in more than 170 countries, according to the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The Turkish TV industry is rapidly becoming a major TV exporter, generating around 600 million dollars in 2024, and aiming for the billion-dollar mark.
With their first collaboration in the film "Losgelöscht" and their current partnership on "Reminder," Ercel and Arduç are set to play significant roles in Turkey's TV industry growth. They are even discussing a Turkish adaptation of the Korean hit series "Queen of Tears."
