Still riding high from her Olympic victory, 18-year-old sensational Darja Varfolomeev cemented her status as Europe's rhythmic gymnastics master with the ribbon at the 2021 European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. A day after finishing third in the all-around, Varfolomeev, crowned Germany’s Sportswoman of the Year, reigned supreme with an unbeatable 30.650 points.
Israel's Meital Maayan Sumkin, trailing by 1.1 points, claimed the runner-up spot. Ukraine's Taisiia Onofritschuk secured the bronze with 29.500 points.
In a closer competition, Anastasia Simakova from Schmiden landed the silver in the ball final with 28.700 points. Lisiana Nikolowa from Bulgaria clinched the top spot with a score of 29.800.
However, the German gymnasts failed to grab first place in the other two finals. Varfolomeev ended up fifth in the hoop final, won by Nikolowa. Debutante Lada Pusch from Schmieden finished seventh in the clubs final, yet another victory for Nikolowa. The Bulgarian gymnast emerged as the versatile champion of the EM with a grand total of three titles and a second-place finish in the all-around.
