The German men's national basketball team concluded their EuroBasket 2022 preparation on a high note, with a bronze medal finish in the tournament co-hosted by Germany, Finland, and Latvia.

Absent the NBA superstar Luka Dončić, Slovenia, the German team faced a challenging match in Mannheim. Despite this, Germany narrowly secured the victory with a score of 80:70, led by captain Dennis Schröder, who was the top scorer for the team with 18 points, and Franz Wagner who added 17 points to the tally.

The SAP Arena in Mannheim was sold out for the match, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for the sport in Germany.

Before the EuroBasket 2022, the German team had a strong run, starting with wins over France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Lithuania in the group stage. They lost to Slovenia but regrouped to beat Hungary, securing their place in the knockout rounds.

In the Round of 16, Germany eliminated Montenegro, and in the quarter-finals, they defeated Greece with a strong shooting performance against a team led by Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, they lost narrowly to eventual champions Spain in the semi-finals but secured the bronze medal by defeating Poland.

Looking ahead, the German team has a Supercup match scheduled in Munich before the EuroBasket 2022 group phase starts on August 27. The team will face Montenegro, Sweden, Lithuania, Finland, and Great Britain in the group phase.

In addition, the German team has two test matches against the defending champion Spain coming up, but the location for these matches has not been specified. These matches will be crucial for the team's preparation for the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers and tournament.

The German team's strong showing at EuroBasket 2022 positions them as a competitive team heading into future international tournaments. Their success in the tournament, culminating in a bronze medal finish, sets a positive outlook for their future competitions.

The German team is set to face two test matches against the defending champions, the Spanish NBA team, as part of their preparations for the EuroBasket 2025 qualifiers and tournament. In the NBA, Luka Dončić, a star player for Slovenia, may pose a challenge, as he did for the German team in their recent match.
