Europe-wide Speed Controls Involve Landpolizei Saxony-Anhalt: Traffic Safety Enforcement Continues
Saxony-Anhalt Police Joins European Speed Control Week to Improve Road Safety
From August 4 to 10, 2025, the state of Saxony-Anhalt is participating in the European speed control week "Speed," a campaign aimed at combating speeding and improving road safety across Europe. This initiative is part of the ROADPOL network's annual European-wide traffic monitoring campaigns.
The ROADPOL network, a European traffic police organization formed by the member countries of the European Union, is organizing this week-long event. The focus of the campaign is to raise awareness about the dangers of excessive speed, enforce speed limits more effectively, and ultimately reduce traffic accidents related to speeding.
During the European speed control week "Speed," intensified speed checks and controls will be conducted across Saxony-Anhalt. The Saxony-Anhalt police will use various traffic monitoring techniques for speed control, including handheld and large-scale devices, as well as enforcement trailers. Speed checks will be carried out throughout the state to encourage drivers to adhere to speed regulations.
In a statement released on July 31, 2025, the Ministry of the Interior and Sport of the State of Saxony-Anhalt revealed that during the first speed control week from April 7 to 13, 2025, over 236,600 vehicles were checked, resulting in the detection of 3,528 speeding offenses. The ministry also announced that the state is intensifying its road safety measures during the upcoming speed control week.
Dr. Tamara Zieschang, the Interior Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, supports these speed control measures and believes they are an effective way to combat speeding and raise awareness of road safety. The minister stated, "Excessive speed is a major contributor to road accidents, and by enforcing speed limits and educating drivers about the importance of safe driving, we can help reduce the number of accidents and save lives."
In addition to speed control, the Saxony-Anhalt police will also focus on the control of commercial goods and passenger transport during the European speed control week "Speed." This multi-faceted approach aims to ensure that all road users are adhering to the rules and regulations, thereby improving overall road safety.
The Saxony-Anhalt police has been participating in multiple actions organized by the ROADPOL network throughout 2025. The police's participation in the European speed control week "Speed" is part of their ongoing commitment to improving road safety in the state.
The ROADPOL network's primary goal is to improve road safety in Europe through annual European-wide traffic monitoring campaigns such as the European speed control week "Speed." By working together, member countries can share best practices, resources, and expertise to create a safer and more secure road network for all European citizens.
Other than speeding, the Saxony-Anhalt police will also focus on the control of commercial goods and passenger transport during the European speed control week. General news and crime-and-justice sectors might report on the findings and impact of these stringent road safety measures enforced by the ROADPOL network and the Saxony-Anhalt police.
